The Expense of Wedding Flowers

Flowers bring extraordinary beauty and emotion to a wedding day. And yet, for many couples, floral quotes can feel surprising at first glance.

As both a former bride and now a flower farmer, I’ve seen this from both sides.

Let me share my perspective..

My Flower Story

When I got married, we simply didn’t have the money for fresh flowers. I made my own silk arrangements, and if I’m honest, I was embarrassed. I wanted fresh blooms — the kind that feel alive in your hands and look timeless in photographs.

Years later, when my daughter married, we were stunned by the cost of wedding flowers. We weren’t prepared for the numbers we were seeing. At the time, I didn’t yet understand what goes into growing, harvesting, conditioning, designing, and delivering florals for a wedding.

Now I do.

And I understand why they carry the investment they do.

Why Wedding Flowers Cost What They Cost

Behind every bouquet is months of work.

Seeds and corms planted in winter.
Rows tended in spring.
Temperature managed.
Weather monitored.
Blooms harvested at their exact moment.
Conditioned carefully.
Designed thoughtfully.

For seasonal growers like us, a wedding isn’t assembled from a warehouse shelf. It’s cultivated.

Flowers are perishable. Labor-intensive. Time-sensitive. And deeply skilled.

When you invest in wedding florals, you’re not just purchasing stems — you’re investing in:

• Agricultural planning
• Infrastructure (like hoophouses)
• Skilled design
• Harvest timing
• Careful handling
• Delivery and setup

It is both farming and artistry.

Making Thoughtful Choices

That said, thoughtful design doesn’t require excess.

One of the most strategic decisions couples can make is prioritizing impact. A beautifully designed bridal bouquet, cohesive centerpieces, and intentional ceremony flowers create an atmosphere without overwhelming the space.

Seasonality also plays an important role. When flowers are grown locally and used at their peak, they perform better and often feel more abundant.

The key is not “how little can I spend,” but rather:

Where will flowers matter most to us?

A Different Perspective

I understand what it feels like to wish for something beautiful and worry about cost.

But I also know the difference fresh, seasonal flowers make — not just visually, but emotionally.

They mark the moment.
They anchor the photographs.
They create atmosphere.
They become part of the memory.

At Nestor Flower Farm, we accept a limited number of weddings each season (May through September — and often into October as weather allows), allowing us to grow intentionally and design thoughtfully.

Most couples investing in full wedding florals fall within the $3,000–$6,000 range, depending on scale and design.

Our goal isn’t excess.
It’s meaningful abundance.

Because flowers are not a line item to check off.

They are part of the story.

If you’d like to explore what’s possible for your wedding date, we would love to hear from you.
