Dusty Miller Isn’t Just Filler

Let’s talk about dusty miller.

Most people think of it as a supporting foliage, but I often see it as one of the most interesting ingredients in an arrangement. In case you are unfamiliar with dusty miller, it’s the big sage-green flowers in the arrangement.

The silvery leaves create contrast that makes surrounding flowers appear even brighter. In this design, dusty miller provides structure, texture, and a soft glow that ties everything together.

As a flower farmer, I appreciate plants that contribute more than one thing to an arrangement. Dusty miller brings color, texture, and movement all at once.

It’s a reminder that beautiful floral design isn’t only about the flowers.

Sometimes the supporting cast steals the show.
